Our partnership is with the Portland Harbor Community Coalition (PHCC). PHCC’s priorities are to promote the rights and values of those most marginalized in the community. They also work adamantly to see that the Portland Harbor Superfund site gets cleaned up and restoration begins in a timely manner. In order to promote the work that PHCC does and spread information about the Portland Harbor Superfund site we have to decided to partner with PHCC and create an Instagram page for their coalition. We have several goals surrounding what we are hoping to help them achieve through the Instagram page which is discussed more thoroughly in another post. We will be assessing how successful we were in achieving those goals in a few different ways.
One of the goals we have is to help the PHCC reach a broader audience of people by broadcasting their mission and other information related to the superfund site through their Instagram page. In order to track how well we are doing at broadcasting to new and more people, we will use the function that allows us to see how many people have been interacting with the PHCC Instagram page. When the page is set to a business setting, it allows us to access more information about who is interacting with the page and what content they are viewing the most. This form of quantitative analysis is really beneficial because then we can track what posts are doing well and structure the rest of our content in that way. This is a useful feature because it not only allows us to see if our goal is being met when it comes to engaging with a broader audience, but it also allows us to see what is working and what is not. We will then have the knowledge we need to format our future posts in certain ways depending on which ones seem to be received the best. Another one of our goals is to have better outreach to a younger generation of individuals. We will be able to track how well we have done this by checking the demographics of the followers we gain on the PHCC page. If we are not succeeding in gaining younger followers then we will know that we need to alter our content or how we present it.
Additionally, another goal we have for this page is to be able to promote different forms of information that will allow our audience to easily engage with it. One of the most important thinks that we will be pushing for our audience to see and use is a link to public comments about the superfund site. PHCC is always advocating for voices to be heard during the public comment period, however, they have noted that there are not as many submissions from younger generations. By providing an easy access link on one of our posts or stories, we will be able to easily tell how many people interact with the link and what groups are now adding to the public comments about the superfund site. If more comments come through from those of younger generations through the link we provide then our goal will have been met. However, if we fail to gain more comments from younger community members then we may have to take on a new strategy of how we broadcast the link. We may have to try sending the link directly to individual accounts and promoting it that way. Overall, most of our assessment of our goals will be provided through the use of analyzing Instagram statistics.
